SMART Local 66 was proud to be part of the Climate Pledge Arena construction. This was an extensive redevelopment of the historic Seattle Center Arena, which repositioned the venue as the premier sports and entertainment destination in the Northwest. The 18,100-seat arena features a completely redesigned interior with new clubs and social spaces, all while preserving the history of the site. Additional highlights include a new atrium, pedestrian plaza, and a premium space that offers views of the event floor, atrium and the iconic Space Needle.
The complex renovation was likened to “building a ship in a bottle,” as crews lifted and suspended a 44 million pound roof over the project site as the arena’s footprint was expanded underground and the walls were rebuilt.
Here are just a few highlights for the work completed by SMART Local 66:
– 4 new Cupula 100,000 CFM fans weighing 3,250 LB’s a piece
– The first duct was hung in April of 2020 and the project went 1 ½ years long.
– The job took 93,000 hours to complete.
– 700,00 lbs of ductwork on the job.
– The superintendent on the job was Erich Holcomb.
The helicopter pick only took an hour to swap out four old fans for four new ones. It went smoothly because there were weeks of pre-planning involved.
Guys on the roof for the helicopter pick were:
– Rick Riker
– Marcus Fox
– Devin Plumley
– Danny Anderson
