In January of 2016 during a Local 66 Executive Board Meeting, Kevin suggested a Local 66 Scholarship. He felt we should start one, along the lines of the International Scholarship. In essence “Local Money, for Local Kids, for College”. At the 2016 Local 66 5-year Planning Meeting, Kevin and I brought it up to the Business Manager and Agents. It was very well received, and we secured funding for it by the end of 2016.

I asked some members I knew very well if they would join me in setting up this new Scholarship Committee. Gaye Schmidt Larimer, Brian Camus, Jeff Lupp, and John Wagner agreed to help.

I met with Retired Member Ken Peterson, former Local 66 Business Manager, who was still involved with judging on the International Scholarship, and asked Ken how it worked, and suggestions for our new Local Scholarship.

A letter was sent out in December 2016 to all Members about the new Local 66 Scholarship. The five $2,000 Awards can be used at any accredited College, University, Community College, or Trade School.

Participation has been low during the Covid Years. We hope that making Local 66 Scholarship Applications available for download on this website will improve participation.

We have modified the applications over the years as need be, the latest change was to include Home School Records in lieu of High School Diploma or GED, as many kids were Home Schooled during Covid.
